About the event
Join us for an evening centered on the words, presence, and continued relevance of James Baldwin.
We will screen James Baldwin in Paris, a 26 minute documentary filmed during one of Baldwin’s returns to the city where his literary career first took shape. In the film, Baldwin speaks on race, exile, survival, and the necessity of distance from America, while also resisting the idea that place itself offers escape or salvation.
The screening will be followed by a moderated discussion reflecting on why Baldwin’s words remain urgent in the current political climate, where questions of identity, power, and violence continue to resurface without resolution.
The evening will also feature two parallel print releases. A selection of photographs made in Paris will be presented alongside a limited edition release of two paintings featuring James Baldwin by gallery artist Zero Bey. James Baldwin inspired designs will be screen printed live and offered…
